As a teenage migrant from Switzerland to Australia, it was not long before I fell under the spell of the Blue Mountains while living in Sydney. Different from Europe in so many ways, these mountains have such a singularly unique magic of their own, a natural heritage and spirit that exists nowhere else. While working as an educator, I sought to understand this attraction and its meaning ever since. VIBRANT BLUE MOUNTAINS provokes the case to care for and preserve what there is before it is too late.
Dr Michael Kindler

“… we face an even greater challenge: we must think about how these lands and communities are to be managed in the face of environmental crises that threaten the planet itself. Now, at a time of unprecedented species extinction we know that they are home to a high proportion of our threatened species. Now, we know that their vast intact forests and swamps are a part of the nation’s most important carbon sinks, and therefore indispensable to climate change abatement. That is the challenge that Michael Kindler leads us to in this fine publication.” — The Honourable Bob Debus AM
